Four years. It was on this date four years ago that the world lost Anthony Bourdain. A flashbulb memory etched so vividly into my consciousness I couldn’t discard it if I tried. Since then? Northern California wildfires. The murder of Jamal Khashoggi. Protests in Hong Kong. George Floyd. COVID-19. The advancement of Iran’s nuclear program. Joe Biden is elected President. The Taliban return to power in Afghanistan. Russia invades Ukraine. And much, much more.
Fantastic writing. I also enjoyed watching his TV show very often. It's funny how even though you never met him, it feels like you knew him like he was your neighbor. That sort of connection is something that doesn't come along every day. Once again, thank you for sharing.
Great piece Joey! I can feel the love and reverence you have for him. I’m very much out of the loop when it comes to the impact of Anthony Bourdain (I have never watched a cooking show/travel show in my life) but I really want to learn more about him from seeing you post about him, even though I’m late to the party 😭 also I love your descriptions of running into your ex’s mom. Haven’t we all been there?
Thank you, Jillian! ❤️ And hey, there’s never a wrong time to start. His work was about much more than good and, right?! Of course it would be that night. Whatever, fuck it. Hahaha
Absolutely in love with this piece, perfection! Although many of us never had the opportunity to met Anthony, most of us watched him in our homes, our safest place and resonate with his love to travel, for food, experiences and his understanding and love of people/ different cultures. We invited him into our homes and he led us on wild adventures and made us laugh and smile! He will be missed.
It would be remiss to say that I feel your presence woven in to who Anthony was, who you are, and this invisible thread that feels as though somehow.. in some shape, way or form, you are he and he is you. Your best writing yet.
Outstanding brother!! Our joint obsession with his ability to befriend anyone from ANY religion, political party, or ideology is why we loved him so much….. Keep it up
I remember seeing AB walking down St. Charles st one day! Stopped me in my tracks!! I met him at a Food Festival years later in Miami and I brought my copy of KC for him to sign! He was perfectly imperfect.

Nah. Bourdain was superbly talented and one of a kind. I’m a fan-boy with an internet connection 😉 hahahaha but I appreciate that! ❤️
